Performance. It's the long-standing yardstick for promotion.
But maybe we should think differently.
A top-performer in their current role isn't automatically destined for greatness in leadership. There’s more to the story.
Leadership isn’t a one-size-fits-all hat.
Let’s deciphers leadership into four non-negotiable elements:
Intelligence – The brainpower to untangle the increasingly intricate challenges leaders face.
Personality – A balanced character, one that's motivating but not self-destructive.
Motivation – The inner drive. A fire that doesn’t need external kindling.
Learning Agility – The art of evolving, of embracing newness, and flexing one’s thought muscles.
This isn’t about skills or past accolades. It's about inherent attributes.
Can you teach someone to be more intelligent or fundamentally alter their personality? No. But if they bring these four to the table, everything else can be molded.
The crux:
Leadership isn't about past performance. It's about potential.
And that potential lies in this dynamic quartet.
"To lead tomorrow's world, you need more than today's accolades."
Let’s rethink leadership and elevate those truly equipped for the journey ahead.
