Daily Thought
“Envy is the art of counting the other fellow’s blessings instead of your own.” — Harold Coffin
Let’s Discuss
Who do you envy? Be honest now.
See past the Instagram highlights reel.
The confidence.
The popularity.
The creativity.
When we envy, we admit a longing. A gap in ourselves.
But we often stop short of the necessary work to close that gap.
Why?
Because if we acknowledge our inadequacies, we'd have to confront them. We'd have to put in the effort to grow. It's easier to resent from the sidelines.
But envy wasted is opportunity lost.
Rather than turn that envy inward or outward, ask:
How can I study those I envy?
Deconstruct their craft?
Reverse engineer their mindset?
Enlist mentors with wisdom and experience to push you where you cannot yet pull yourself.
Envy no longer becomes a black hole of comparison.
It becomes rocket fuel to propel you.
The longtime founder/friend confided in me that a decade ago, he envied the effortless charisma of Steve Jobs. So he hired a speaking coach. He clocked hours relentlessly rehearsing his stories and presentations.
Today he's renowned keynote speaker.
So who do you envy?
What do they have that you secretly wish for?
Lean into that.
Choose growth over resentment.
Let envy propel, not repel, you.
